As computing and web browsing go mobile, iPhone and iPod Touch printing apps are popping up with increasing frequency. We covered HP’s iPrint Photo back in January, but the free program came with two notable limitations – it could only print JPEG files, and it only worked with select HP printers. So what if you own another brand of printer and need to roll out emails, document attachments, contacts, webpages, and other types of files in addition to photos? In an effort to address these issues, Eurosmartz has released a new iPhone and iPod Touch app called Print & Share that lets you share, email and print pretty much anything you want from any kind of printer. For the full list of features, visit the product page.

So how does it work? First, you need to do 3 things:

  1. Download the Print & Share App to your iPhone or iPod Touch for $6.99 from the iTunes Store.
  2. Download a free program called WePrint and install it onto your computer. If you’re travelling, download the program onto a USB key to carry around and plug into the computer you’ll eventually be using.
  3. Make sure whatever computer you’re using is connected to a printer, whether it’s a basic USB connection or over a network. WePrint will find the connected printer(s) and enable you to print straight from your iPhone or iPod Touch via Print & Share.

The main downside of this app is that you have to use a computer and the WePrint software as an intermediary between your iPhone or iPod Touch and your printer. As a result, it makes you wonder why you wouldn’t just print files straight from your computer anyway. On the flipside, there may be important files and email accounts you can only access through your iPhone, so there could be some utility despite the cumbersome installation process. In any case, if you’re travelling, you’ll have to plan beforehand and make sure you have access to a computer and printer at some point during your trip. If not, you may want to pack a laptop with WePrint installed, and buy a battery-powered portable printer.
